Harlem Grown

A vibrant dinner menu filled with fresh picked fruits and veggies, inspired by the children’s book Harlem Grown by Tony Hillery.

Our Family Dinner Book Club theme for the year is Social-Emotional Learning! This month we’re learning about showing kindness and sharing with Harlem Grown: How One Big Idea Transformed a Neighborhood by Tony Hillery. To accompany this themed dinner menu, Growing Book by Book has a reading list of additional books as well as conversation starters, and Sunny Day Family shares a selection of crafts.

Harlem Grown is a lovely picture book that takes us through the revitalization of a local garden, and shows a community coming together to create a lush urban farm. This book will inspire kids and adults to work together to pursue healthy and active lives.

Our Family Dinner Book Club menu this month features all the ripe and juicy produce that we can harvest from local gardens and farmer’s markets. Take your kids shopping with you to look at, touch, and smell all the fruits and vegetables you’ll pick for dinner together. Dips are a great vehicle for getting more veggies into kids’ bellies.
