An all-American dinner menu to accompany children’s book Remembering Vera by Patricia Polacco.

Our Family Dinner Book Club theme for the year is Celebrations! This month we’re celebrating National Pet Month with Remembering Vera by Patricia Polacco. To accompany this themed dinner menu, Growing Book by Book has a reading list of additional books as well as talking points to get the conversation started. Sunny Day Family shares a selection of crafts to help celebrate.

Remembering Vera is the story of a stray dog named Vera who becomes a local hero with the the San Francisco Bay area U.S. Coast Guard. The commander isn’t so sure about having a dog on base, but quickly falls in love with the fierce pup. This illustrated children’s book by Patricia Polacco is a sweet tale that families will fall in love with.
Vera is rewarded with a steak after showing her heroism, and then one every day going forward. Steak is the quintessential All-American food, so it’s only fitting that our menu this month is rounded out with even more All-American dishes. Red, White, and Blue yarn-wrapped stars adorn our table to salute Vera, the American Hero.
