Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs dinner menu

A family dinner and food craft to accompany the children’s book Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

This year, our Family Dinner Book Club theme is Books and Movies Through the Ages. This month is the 1960s with Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett. Growing Book By Book has a booklist and conversation starters for you. Sunny Day Family created a cute craft just for the occasion!

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs! This was a childhood favorite of mine for sure. I remember sitting on the brown carpet in my elementary school’s library while Ms. Pam read this book to us. Squinting through her tortoise shell rims with thick lenses, magically reading upside down so we could all see the pictures, Ms. Pam did the best voices!

The town of Chewandswallow didn’t have any food stores because “everything they ever ate came from the sky”. Until the weather took a turn for the worse…

You’ll have to read this fun children’s book to find out more! There are also two movies you can watch.

My inspiration for this meal is two-fold. Of course we had to have meatballs for dinner, and what better to go with meatballs than spaghetti? Add some garlic bread and a salad, and you’re set.

The people who fled Chewandswallow used large pieces of bread to build themselves temporary houses. We’re using waffles, fruit, whipped cream, and toothpicks to build our own delicious houses!
