This family dinner menu is a water conscious meal inspired by the book One Well: The Story of Water on Earth by Rochelle Strauss, and is part of our monthly Family Dinner Book Club.
Water is a precious resource our Earth provides for us, and this month’s Family Dinner Book Club is all about how we can conserve this resource. Our lead book is One Well: The Story of Water on Earth by Rochelle Strauss. Go check out Growing Book by Book for a full reading list, conversation starters, and family service project ideas. Then head over to Sunny Day Family for a fun craft to create with your kids.
Our dinner for this month is both vegetarian and Mediterranean inspired. The Mediterranean eating plan follows the inverse food pyramid, which also happens to be the most water-conscious eating plan. The way we grow and prepare our foods determines how much water each industry is using, polluting and/or recycling.
Something you’ll notice both in the inverse food pyramid and in these photos here is that sweets and desserts are smack dab in the middle! What better motivation for following this eating style?! I’m kidding… mostly. We definitely should be limiting sweets, but I have a major sweet tooth, so any excuse works for me. Ha!
Take your meal outside this month to enjoy even more of what nature has to offer, and don’t forget to thank our Earth for providing so much goodness to us!
