Our Family Dinner Book Club selection for the month of June is Sona and the Wedding Game by Kashmira Sheth. Here you’ll find a menu that can be prepared with the help of your children, and will hopefully be a fun and interactive activity for the whole family. Head over to Growing Book by Book for some talking points to get the conversation started as well as an idea for a family service project. Then visit Sunny Day Family for a fun craft. We invite you to share a picture from your dinner with us anytime during the month on our Family Dinner Book Club Facebook page.
Sona and the Wedding Game is such a fun book about a Hindu Indian wedding and some of the customs involved. After reading this book I researched typical Indian wedding foods and found that there are many traditions in the various regions, but the one thing they all have in common is that a wedding is a time for FEASTING! Food is a very important part of Indian weddings, and you’ll always find a massive spread. Halwa is commonly served on the dessert table, and as this is a celebration, it is the time to order the most expensive type! I sure would love to attend an Indian wedding now. Not even just for the food – also for all the colors and customs I would get to observe.

Hello! I cannot find the recipes. Are they included on this page? I’m quite a few years behind. I printed out the pages for the binder and I’m just now getting to this book .
