My Father’s Dragon – Family Dinner Book Club

My Father's Dragon dinner menu from ChefSarahElizabeth.com

Our Family Dinner Book Club selection for the month of September is My Father’s Dragon by Ruth Stiles Gannet. Here you’ll find a menu that can be prepared with the help of your children, and will hopefully be a fun and interactive activity for the whole family. Head over to Growing Book by Book for some talking points to get the conversation started as well as an idea for a family service project. Then visit Sunny Day Family for a fun craft. We invite you to share a picture from your dinner with us anytime during the month on our Family Dinner Book Club Facebook page.

My Father’s Dragon is a book narrated by the son of Elmer Elevator, who goes on an adventure to the island of Tangerina to rescue a dragon. Elmer Elevator ran away from home to rescue the dragon after getting mad at his mom for not letting him keep a stray cat he found. He secretly gives the cat a saucer of milk anyway, so of course we’ll be putting out a saucer of milk for our stray cat friends during this dinner.

Elmer passes through the port of cranberry before landing at the island of Tangerina. I like the food names! Our dinner tonight features chicken pot pie because it has always struck me as “Dad Food”. Dads seem to like to mix all their food together and eat it in one bowl, and that is exactly what chicken pot pie it. One dish, everything mixed together, with a delicious gravy and pie crust to wrap it all up.
