My sister threw me a You Are My Sunshine themed baby shower in June to celebrate my pregnancy. It was so much fun to have the women of my family and friends over to my home to spend time playing silly games and talking about pregnancy and babies. The gifts were pretty good, too! I’m getting ready to meet my baby any day now, and after this shower I think we are as prepared as we can be to welcome an infant into our home.
Decor
Yellow everywhere! Yellow flowers, yellow signs, yellow cupcakes, yellow tablecloths. We also included grey and blue for some added color.
We had quote signs that said
“Higher than the stars, Deeper than the oceans” because this is something David says with the kids. He even has it tattooed on his side.
“Your son will hold your hand for a little while, but he’ll hold your heart for a lifetime”
“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey.”
Games
I love baby shower and wedding shower games! The cheesier the better! Unlike Elyse, I wanted all the games at my shower.
We played the melted chocolate in the diapers game. I have played this game at countless baby showers and have always found it silly. Being pregnant, though, and having a majorly sensitive gag reflex, this time around I was thoroughly grossed out! I couldn’t help but laugh at myself because I gagged at each new diaper I was passed.
How big is the belly? We had yellow and silver ribbons for people to guess the circumference of my belly. It was quite hysterical to see that some people thought I was 5 feet around the belly! Several people got really close with their guesses. Abby won this game because I gave her a major hint. One of her favorite things is to wrap her arms around me to see if she can still touch her fingers together. At the time of this baby shower Abby was able to just slightly overlap her fingers around my belly, so she used the ribbon to measure her own reach and her ribbon ended up being about 1/4 inch different than the one we actually wrapped around my belly!
Decorate a Onesie
We had tons of white onesies and fabric markers for people to decorate onesies for the baby. We got so many cute designs!
Wishes for Baby
Everyone had a card with questions to fill out for Baby. After the shower I sat in the nursery, read the cards, and cried. There are so many sweet and funny wishes for our baby and family.
Guess the Due Date
I am still pregnant, so nobody has won this game yet, but I have a calendar in the nursery that is filled with guesses for when the baby will actually arrive. We’ll see!
