You know those chocolate oranges that you smash open and they split into a bunch of scrumptious chocolate-orange wedges? Those are so yummy, right?! Yeah, well, I decided I needed to recreate that flavor combination.
Just like that time I made margaritas by squeezing a million oranges, lemons, and limes because the flavor is so much more amazing than those margarita mixes I thought freshly squeezed orange juice would greatly improve the flavor of today’s hot cocoa beverage.
I got some navel oranges and some cara cara oranges to experiment with the slight flavor difference (and the cara caras are so pretty!) While these highly fragrant citruses made my apartment smell amazing they did not do so much for my tasty concoction.
I know when to persevere and when to admit defeat. After trying several variations and filling my tummy up with milk, chocolate and orange juice, I decided that in this case the cheater way is the best way. So I added a few drops of orange extract to my light chocolate ganache hot cocoa. Flavor explosion!
So for today I approve of you taking a shortcut. Simply add a drop or two or orange extract to your mug of milk and ganache just before heating.
Chocolate Orange Hot Cocoa
1 Cup Milk
2 Tablespoons Light Chocolate Ganache
1/4 Teaspoon Orange Extract
-Mix all ingredients together
-Heat until chocolate melts
-Serve hot in your favorite mug garnished with orange peel
