A family dinner menu to accompany children’s book UnBeelievables by Douglas Florian.

This month’s theme for Family Dinner Book Club is Bees, and our lead book is UnBeelievables by Douglas Florian. Here you’ll find a menu that can be prepared with the help of your children. This book is a collection of poems all about bees and how vital they are to our world. Bees are pollinators, so they help to keep many plants alive. They also happen to provide us with a tasty product called honey!

This menu is inspired by bees, provided by bees, and is designed to help the bees! If you can plant your own garden, make sure you choose local plant varieties that bees love such as mint, rosemary, and chamomile. Bees also love wildflowers and goldenrod. The Honeybee Conservancy and The Gardener’s Eden have lots of resources to help you help the bees!

Pascal Pasta is a beloved dish in this house. Before we all lived together, when I started cooking for David and the girls, I made pesto pasta, but what they heard was “Pascal” pasta, like the adorable like chameleon from the movie Tangled. So this pasta will forever be called Pascal Pasta, and lucky for me it is a favorite and a great way to get some extra veggies into the kids!

Bees give us honey, and if we want to support their chosen career paths, then a honey tasting is a great way to do that! I have an assortment of three honeys here in this menu, plus a variety of foods to pair with them.
