Our Family Dinner Book Club selection for the month of August is The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf. Here you’ll find a menu that can be prepared with the help of your children, and will hopefully be a fun and interactive activity for the whole family. Head over to Growing Book by Book for some talking points to get the conversation started as well as an idea for a family service project. Then visit Sunny Day Family for a fun craft. We invite you to share a picture from your dinner with us anytime during the month on our Family Dinner Book Club Facebook page.
The Story of Ferdinand is a story of a bull who isn’t interested in being a bull fighting bull in Spain. All he would rather do is sit in the fields and smell the flowers. I received this book at my baby shower with a note to the baby encouraging him to be himself and to smell the flowers as often as he likes. I like the message in this book. It was a bit comical when I read it to Abby and Katie because they had no concept of bull fighting and the story didn’t seem to make any sense to them. After I explained about bull fighting and how bulls normally act, they were a little more interested.
Our menu for this month is fully inspired by Ferdinand’s homeland of Spain, and consists of many tapas to enjoy our dinner in small bites.
