If Kids Ran The World – Family Dinner Book Club

If Kids Ran The World dinner menu from ChefSarahElizabeth.com

Our Family Dinner Book Club selection for the month of October is If Kids Ran the World by Leo and Diane Dillon. Here you’ll find a menu that can be prepared with the help of your children, and will hopefully be a fun and interactive activity for the whole family. Head over to Growing Book by Book for some talking points to get the conversation started, fun crafts, and an idea for a family service project. We invite you to share a picture from your dinner with us anytime during the month on our Family Dinner Book Club Facebook page.

Preparing for this month’s Family Dinner Book Club was the first time I read If Kids Ran the World and I instantly fell in love with it! This book really points out all the ways kids are much better than adults. I completely believe that in many ways we should be more like children. If we based our decisions on the black and white ways kids sometimes see things, I think we would be a lot happier and peaceful overall. One of the pages in this book talks about how if kids ran the world nobody would be hungry. Keeping this in mind, I wanted to create a feast to be enjoyed with this family dinner book club discussion. You’ll get a family service project from Jodie, but I think it would be neat to invite another family into your home to enjoy this feast with you. Share your family dinner and make new friends, or deepen existing relationships.

Kids in the Kitchen
Get the kids involved in cooking tonight’s dinner. Always supervise young children closely. Kids get a big kick out of pressing the “go” button on the blender to make the butternut squash soup. You can set up an assembly line for the chicken tenders and get everyone involved in dipping the chicken pieces in their coating. Take the kids grocery shopping with you and let them choose a vegetable and fruit to include in tonight’s feast!
