Pull Apart Cheese Bread

Pull Apart Cheese Bread recipe from ChefSarahElizabeth.com

I feel it is my duty to begin this post with a confession: When I made this pull apart cheese bread, I ate nearly the entire thing by myself. I shared a little with David, but only because I’ve been trying to watch what I eat and lose a little weight. I was somehow able to limit myself to only 2 slices immediately after shooting these photos. Then we had some with dinner that night, and then I ate the remaining (half) with tomato soup for lunch the following day. It’s nothing new that cheesy garlic bread is an amazing recipe. Serving this way, in the center of the table, as a pull apart bread so everyone can just reach over and take a piece at will, that is just so much more fun. Don’t you think?

You can use any cheese you love in the bread, just make sure to have a good melting cheese in the mix so you don’t miss out on the gooey goodness. I’d like to try sharp cheddar with a touch of truffle oil, Brie with some finely chopped ham, Gruyere with paprika or cayenne pepper for a bit of a bite. Just open your cheese drawer and your spice cabinet and play with flavor combinations. Or go classic garlic cheese bread like the recipe below. This sort of recipe has been popping up around the internet for a while now, but it seems the original creator may have been Nagi of Recipe Tin Eats. She calls it Crack Bread, which I think is a very fitting description. What is your favorite cheese?

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

  2. Slice the sourdough boule into 1 inch slices all the way across, making sure to not slice through to the bottom.
  3. Turn the sourdough boule and cut 1 inch slices across the opposite direction. This will create 1 inch cubes.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together the mozzarella, garlic powder, and salt. Stuff the cheese mixture into each sliced section of the bread, tucking all the way to the bottom.
  5. Drizzle the melted butter all over the top and into the slices of the bread.
  6. Wrap in foil, place on a sheet tray, and bake for 20 minutes.
